Moog Problem Solver Ball Joints

Moog Ball Joints provide long-lasting dependability and performance. Moog ball joints are made with a hardened steel stud ball. These have a full 360-degree range of movement, allowing for consistent stud articulation throughout the life of the part. Grease grooves allow full lubrication between the housing and the ball stud for extended life.

Ball joints are a pivotal part of your vehicle's suspension, so go with the best replacement with Moog's Ball Joints. A ball joint allows your wheels to rotate when you turn the steering wheel. If your ball joint has failed or is failing, your vehicle's ability to turn is severely hindered. Moog's Ball Joints use innovated designs to maximize the performance and durability of your suspension.

starstarstarstarstar" Excellent! "

Make sure you have the correct Lower Control Arm before you purchase. Welded Arms have a 46.13mm and Forged has a 47.89mm. That 1.76mm is a huge difference and you will not fit a forged ball joint into a welded arm hole.

Question:
I went to local auto parts store and measured k6477 lower ball joint and it was 46.13 mm not 45.79 mm. Your site lists it at 45.79 mm but the store computer says its listed as 46.13 mm which l measured it to be. I'm finding a lot of conflicting information with the same part numbers listing two different measurements. Will this ball joint fit my application of 1995 chevy k2500?
Answer:
To answer your quesiton, the part K6477 is fitted for a K2500 95 Chevy. According to Moog's manufacturer page, the specs are: Height 3.870 in Inner Diameter 1.810 in Length 3.870 in Stud Taper Per Foot 0.046 Stud Thread 0.625-18 Type of Suspens sion Standard Meets/Exceeds OE Manufacturer Specs Press In Type; Problem Solver - Powdered Metal Gusher Brg. Question:
I installed K6477 ball joint it did not come with a additional boot there is a gap.
Answer:
Yes that is normal for a gap between the spindle and the dust boot. Moog has redesigned some of their ball joints form the external dust boot to the intragral dust boot.

Question:
K6477 lower ball joint felt tight as usual until i installed it and it feel loose. Doesn't seem to have up and down play but swivels and spins easily. Is this acceptable?
Answer:
After the ball joint is installed and greased it should rotate with a little effort. NO up and down movement.

Question:
It did not come with lock ring.
Answer:
moog-k6477 is a press fit and does not require a snap ring. If the ball joint is loose in the lower control arm the arm will have to be replaced.

Question:
Curious if these lower ballpoints have more articulation capability than stock? Doing a custom front suspension kit And I need to gain more articulation in the lower ball joint.
Answer:
The range of motion of any Moog ball joint will be the same as an OEM ball joint.

Question:
Does the front lower ball joint (K6477) require a dust boot or cover? Neither of the boxes contained an additional dust boot cover, unlike the upper. After installation, there does appear to be a bit of exposed stud. I guess it would make a lot more sense if there WAS a boot.
Answer:
Moog has redesigned the ball joint from the external dust boot to an integral dust boot. We have had a lot less issues with torn boots. Because of the design it tapered stud will be exposed.

Question:
I have two lower ball joints (K6477) which do not have a boot in either of the boxes. Do this model require a grease boot?
Answer:
moog-k6477 has been redesigned to an integral dust boot. They do not have the external dust boot any longer.

Question:
On the moog-k6477 do I need to fill the boot with grease until it covers the exposed stud on the ball joint?
Answer:
No, you will not want to pump so much grease that the integrated boot will inflate that much. The exposed stud is how it should look on install. When greasing only grease until the boot swells a little or grease is coming out of the release valve ne ear the stud. ...see more

Question:
How do I know if I need part number k6477 or k6509 for my 1999 Chevy Tahoe LT 4WD?
Answer:
For the 1999 Chevy Tahoe 4WD, if you have the welded control arms, it will be part number k6477 and if you have the forged control arms, it will be part number k6509.

Question:
Do you make the k6477 but in an oversized option for my 98 K1500 GMC?
Answer:
No, part number k6477 is the only option for the 98 K1500 GMC for the welded arm.

Question:
I installed two ball joints part number k6477 and I cant get the boots to pop on. Is there some trick or special tool needed to get them to seat?
Answer:
That ball joint has an integral dust boot. Pump grease in to the ball joint till it starts to expand. It will be full.
