The two different colors are essentially the same at a formula level. Some black components are graphite impregnated as a self-lubricating agent, but overall they are the same part. Graphite is not added to the red formula simply because it changes the color of the bushing.
Bushing hardness by color?
The Durometer (or hardness) of red and black bushings are the same for that position. The different colors do not indicate a higher or lower durometer.
Why buy red bushings?
Red or black bushings is almost entirely an aesthetic choice, there is no real functional difference between the two. Some who drive their vehicles especially hard (track, rally, etc.) sometimes use red bushings because it is easier to see any damage that the bushing might have suffered from extreme conditions.
Are there other bushing colors?
Energy Suspension used to have Yellow and Blue options but they stopped producing components in these colors a long time ago and they are no longer available on the market.
Made in Black Only
Unlike nearly every other Energy Suspension brand part. This part is only produced in Black. Inquiries concerning this revealed that at the time they do not plan to make this part in Red now or in the future.
Wide Spring Kit
There are 2 size leaf springs in these trucks. Most of them have 2.5 inch wide springs. Some however will have 3 inch wide springs. These wider springs will require a different set of rear leaf spring bushings. If you select the 3 Inch wide springs version, we will swap the standard 2.5 inch wide bushings for the larger 3 inch wide.
The WIDTH refers to the width of the spring itself. Always measure the SPRING when trying to determine which set you need. Dont measure the bushings. (explanation follows for those of you who want the details on WHY) The overall width of the bushings in a 2.5 inch wide spring would actually be about 3 inches and the overall width of the bushings in a 3.0 Inch wide spring would be about 3.5 inches. This is because there is about 1/4 inch of bushing flange on either side of the bushings.
